There are many attractions in the Monterey - Carmel area.
The following is a list of suggestions for your free afternoon.

If you do not have a car, it is still possible to enjoy the area.
Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) has bus routes that serve most of the places listed here.

Note that MST offers an all-day pass ($7.00) that allows you to travel anywhere on their system.

Downtown Monterey is home to Cannery Row.

Cannery Row is also the location of the Monterey Bay Aquarium:

Close to the hotel is Point Lobos State Reserve, part of the California State Park system:

This is a wonderful place to hike along the rugged coast and look for sea otters and seals.
It is about a mile walk along the busy Highway 1 but is also served by MST.

Traveling 26 miles south on Highway 1 brings you to Big Sur:
